Session 1: The Critical Path to a Great Career
Have you ever wondered why some people go from strength to strength in their profession while other, equally capable and talented people seem to plateau or worse, senselessly slide backwards as they near their goals?
Kim Seeling Smith has spent the last 16 years studying the differences between the first group who seem to effortlessly realise their goals: whether they are rising to a senior level position, growing a thriving business, managing career around family or simply doing interesting work with interesting people in interesting places, and the second group who seem to disappear off of the professional radar, constantly struggling to get back on track.
She discovered that it is not talent, ability, education, personality, political astuteness or even luck that determines your professional fate. Rather, its 4 key steps that every successful candidate takes to ensure their ultimate professional success.
In The Critical Path to a Great Career, Kim will provide an overview of the 4 key steps to manage the critical path of your career. You will learn: How to plan your 3 - 5 year career goals The difference between your destination and the vehicles you can use to get there How finding your unique value proposition will ensure a lifetime of opportunities and employment The 4 critical, non-technical skills essential for every business person to master, regardless of function How to manage your mental fitness and easily rebound from setbacks - both personal and professional.
Kims style is warm and engaging and this session is guaranteed to leave you motivated and inspired as well as giving you practical tools that you can use immediately to navigate your career safely to its ultimate destination.
Kim Seeling Smith in an international speaker, trainer, coach and author on Career Management and Employee Retention issues. Previously, Kim spent 15 years as a recruiter in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. During that time she worked with thousands of individuals and companies and studied the differences between those capable and talented people who successfully reach their career goals and those equally capable and talented people who plateau or senselessly slide backwards as they near them, as well as those companies that are extremely successful in keeping their critical people and those that consistently battle staff turnover. Kim shares these distinctions with her clients in her Critical Path series of programs, helping them to reach their personal and professional goals.

In the first follow up session to The Critical Path to a Great Career Kim Seeling Smith will first help you to set your course: to get really clear on where you should be going in your career or business over the next 3 - 5 years. This workshop will not only help you to discover the path that is right for you, it will also help you to evaluate where that path is taking you and to make sure you really want to go there. You begin by asking yourself the bigger questions such as 'How does my professional life fit into my personal life?', 'What do I want from my professional life', and 'What's REALLY important to me?'
Kim will then introduce you to some very robust tools that will help you to discover how to make your mark: how to discover and use your innate abilities to take the path of least resistance to success as well as helping you become indispensable to your employer or customers and, as a result, infinitely marketable.
Finally, Kim will show you a decision matrix that will enable you to choose between the options available to you to reach your destination and will walk you through a goal setting process unlike any other you've seen.
You will learn how to: Establish 3 - 5 year professional goals by working out the destination before the potential vehicles you can use to reach that destination Choose between the various vehicles available to you to reach your destination Identify and use your unique value proposition to keep your professional passion burning and ensure sustained demand for your services Set goals in a fun and extremely effective way

According to recent surveys, up to 1/3 of Australian workers are looking for new jobs. What are you doing to keep your critical people? Ask 10 different managers what their staff needs to stay engaged and stay with the company and you will get 10 different answers. Many managers mistakenly believe that employee retention boils down to salary and benefits. While people do need to be paid a fair wage, research shows that most employees will put up with long hours and low pay given the opportunity to do meaningful work at a company they love with a team they enjoy. Especially if they are able to put their own unique mark on that work and be recognised for their achievements.
Retaining good employees is hard work - especially in todays environment - and yet the concepts behind it are actually very simple.
In The Critical Path to Keeping Critical People, Kim Seeling Smith will present a combination of scientific research and anecdotal evidence from the 16 years she spent studying staff retention with thousands of companies. She will present the 4 key steps that are critical to keeping your critical people as well as exploring the following topics:
Job objectives vs job descriptions Strengths based coaching techniques and why they are more effective than traditional performance management Clear communication vs direct communication The importance of helping your staff manage their mental fitness through challenging times
This session is guaranteed to leave you motivated and inspired, as well as giving you practical tools that you can use immediately to help you keep your critical people.

Every career (and life) has setbacks: times where things dont go to plan or happen as quickly as youd like. Your ability to pick yourself up and dust yourself off will, in many cases, be the ultimate test for how high you can climb and how happy and fulfilled you will be.
It can also be the determining factor for whether a staff member stays or leaves after a personal or professional setback.
In this workshop Kim will give you a very insightful and humorous overview of the human brain and help you with 2 - 3 practical tools to thrive through any setback, delay or change: personal or professional. This workshop will be both fun and interactive and will guarantee that you will walk away with solutions you can apply immediately to your life and teach your staff to apply to theirs.
