Profile:

In her new book Jana Wendt delves into people’s working lives, beginning with the peculiarities of her own former job as one Australia’s most well known television journalists. She recalls an overnight trip through the snow with a trainload of Russian nationalist boors, addled to incomprehensibility by vodka - for the sake of a story. This was not, she supposed, the way that most people lived their orderly working lives. Wendt spent a year following nine people at work: including, an overweight boxer set for a comeback in the ring, a maverick priest demoted late in life, a CEO whose company found itself mired in scandal and a forensic anthropologist who exhumes the dead for a living. Wendt is witness to the successes and failures, the blows to reputation and the moments of satisfaction. The result is an insightful, wonderfully observed and entertaining book about the nature of modern work.
Jana Wendt was born in Melbourne in 1956 and began her career as a researcher for the ABC before becoming a reporter for Channel 10. She was the youngest ever, and first female, reporter on 60 Minutes, before moving across in 1988 to host A Current Affair. Jana returned to 60 Minutes in 1994 and became a contributing correspondent to the American edition of the show. Jana has also hosted the Seven Network's Witness and Nine Network's Sunday. During her career, Jana has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the Gold Logie and Penguin award for Best Current Affairs Presenter.
Ticket price includes a copy of Jana Wendt's latest book Nice Work valued at $35. Please book early as this event is sure to sell out.
